AIMS and Quarter Test 3 approaching

Our AIMS testing will begin on April 11th. The 7th and 8th grades have approximately 22 lessons left. The week prior to AIMS we will be practicing an AIMS preparation test and reviewing any concepts that students are unsure of. The 3rd Quarter test will be Thursday March 10th. If you miss that date the test must be made up by Friday March 11th. If you plan on being absent on that day please inform me and we can find a way for you to make it up prior to the end of the quarter.

Concepts being covered:

7th: Volume, surface area, 3-dimensional objects/solids, nets, and measurement systems.

8th: Volume, surface area, 3-dimensional objects/solids, nets, and measurement systems.

Welcome back. We are already two weeks into the the third quarter and we're approaching its midway point and there is plenty to look forward to. We are two weeks from progress reports and about three months away from the AIMS test. It is vital that we do our strongest work and cover the greatest amount of material over these next few months.

Here are the concepts that each grade is covering over the next few weeks:

7th: Slope, advanced balanced equations, variable isolation/manipulation, inequalities, coordinate planes, and functions

8th: Midpoint discovery, coordinate/Pythagorean Theorem extension, inequalities, linear equations, and Slope-intercept-form.

Stay on top of your journal work and be prepared for your wednesday quizzes. You guys are doing great, keep it up.

THE FINALE

The second quarter is coming to an end and I am very proud of the work we've accomplished. There are two weeks left. This week students will be completing their test reviews and preparing for their 2nd Quarter Test on Thursday December 9th. This Test will be weighted heavily so please study and work hard this week.

Journals are also due this week as I will be grading them all week long. Please get them put together and turned in. If you are going to miss your Quarter Test on Thursday please speak to me about making it up by Friday. Final grades must be in by the end of class Friday.

Next week we will be doing CBM testing and Buckledown review. Report Cards come out on Friday the 17th.

MIDPOINT

The midpoint of the 2nd quarter is here and we are continuing to build momentum toward the end of the quarter. The 2nd quarter Test is in three weeks. Students are continuing their buckle down curriculum and will be reaching page 60 by the end of the quarter.

Over the next few weeks the 7th Grade will be working on Ratios, Proportional equations, Angle relationships, Integer addition, signed number multiplication and division, and Volume.

Over the next few weeks the 8th Grade will be working Algebraic terms, Coefficient recognition, and Geometric vocabulary, understanding, and computation.

Stay up on your journals and keep your focus. Just four weeks till Christmas break.

2nd Quarter Progress

Junior High Mathematics is hitting the second quarter in stride. The first Quarter test is behind and momentum is building as we begin using our buckle down curriculum daily. Students will begin to have a heavier workload and, as a result, see more homework. If daily journal assignments are not completed in class each student will be responsible for finishing that assignment at home.

The concepts that each grade is focusing on are as listed:

7th: Balanced equations, Pythagorean Theorem, Probability, Proportional equations, and Triangles: Angle relationships, Area, Classifying by side-length and angle.

8th: Graphing transformations, Reflections, Rotations, Translations, Dilations, Coordinate plane calculation, Multi-step balanced equations, and Complex solid Volume.

Stay on top of your journal work and keep your focus, 2nd quarter flies by quickly.

1st Quarter Finish

Junior High Mathematics has begun to hit stride as both 7th and 8th graders move toward the end of their 1st Quarter. Quarter Tests will take place on Friday October 8th. Test reviews will be handed out a week prior on October 1st. If you are curious here is a listing of what each grade is covering over the next week:

7th: Fractional Computation, Mixed Number Computation, Variable expression, balanced equations, Percent-Decimal-Fraction conversions, Area of a Triangle and Complex Figures.

8th: Volume, Surface Area, Number sense -- Irrational Numbers, Rational Numbers, Integers, Whole numbers, and Counting Numbers, Angle Relationships, and Pythagorean Theorem.

Keep up to date with your Journals. Journal grading will take place the last two weeks of the quarter.

A NEW YEAR! 2010 - 2011

Welcome back Junior High!

I'm excited to work with our new Course Three Saxon Mathematics text books and continue our pursuit of excellence within 7th and 8th grade Math. We will be hitting every single state standard. I have a short SUPPLY LIST, so please bring anything you can on your first day of school and on through the first few weeks:

Be prepared for a syllabus and exhaustive practice and review of classroom procedures. I can't wait to see you guys and get started on another strong year of Mathematics and character growth. Love you guys and see you soon.

7th: The 7th grade has started their 3rd quarter strong. This quarter is arguably the most important quarter of the year. This is where we make our final push towards the AIMS test. It is our last full quarter before then. Progress reports come out one week from Monday. We are resolutely focused on decimal, percent, and fraction conversions as well as interior angle relationships, decimal repetends, and complex rounding. I know you can do guys. Keep on working.

8th: The 3rd quarter is arguably the most important quarter of the year. This is where we make our final push towards the AIMS test. It is our last full quarter before then. Progress reports come out one week from Monday. We are studying: angle estimates, distributive property, compound probability, complex angle relationships, and volume of right solids. The 8th grade is doing very well with incredibly complex concepts. Keep your focus guys.

Finishing

The seond quarter is nearing its end. We have two days of school before Thanksgiving and then we hit our two and half week home stretch. Our 2nd quarter test will be on Friday the December 11th.

The seventh graders are studying reading and writing decimals, coordinate planes, area, mixed number addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, and two-step word problems.

The eighth graders are studying coordinate plane transformations, Algebraic addition, Algebraic multiplication, Term manipulation, and two-step unit multipliers.

7th: The 7th graders have made great strides in the last month. Their Journal work has become much more consistent and well thought out as a whole. The 2nd quarter is when we quicken our pace so students must keep their focus. We are studying prime factorization, area, perimeter, and word problem diagramming.

8th: We are presently studying insufficeint information comparisons, graphing inequalities, and computing complex figure area. The 8th grade is moving strong and progress reports are around the corner so keep up the good work.
